This archive covering Library administration until 27 Sep. 1976 when the Library was given in trust to the Dep. of Ethnography, British Museum (approved by the Extraordinary General meeting on 24 June) contains correspondence and papers from 1914 though material before 1947 is sparse. Material has been selectively retained while correspondence etc. in whole categories such as binding, book loans, book purchases, British Union Catalogue of Periodicals, cleaning, microfilming of published articles, overdue books, photocopying, queries, UNESCO have been excluded. Other categories, Anthropological Index, Burton Library, Manuscript and House Archive collections, Museum collection, Picture collection and busts, Photograph collection and slides have been treated as separate archives. The move from 21 Bedford Square to the Dep. of Ethnography (Museum of Mankind) at 6 Burlington Gardens which commenced on 22 July 1971 and the transfer of the Library to the Dep. of Ethnography on 27 Sep. 1976 are included.
